12 Foods that you DON’T Have to Buy Organic

This is another interesting and useful article from Dr. Mercola.  I don’t agree 100% with every recommendation that is made, but I do think it’s a great starting point to help improve our nutritional choices. I think the most valuable part of this entire article is the information provided about some of the detrimental effects of conventional foods.

The 12 foods that this study claims have the least residue from pesticides, and are therefore are considered some of the safest to consume non-organically, are:

Broccoli
Eggplant
Cabbage
Banana
Kiwi
Asparagus
Sweet peas (frozen)
Mango
Pineapple
Sweet corn (frozen)
Avocado
Onion

First of all, it’s important in our family to buy (or grow) fresh organic produce whenever we possibly can. If I have to choose between something that is toxic with pesticides and insecticides, or something that is organic… I’m goin’ organic, regardless of what list that food shows up on!

I don’t buy conventional broccoli. I disagree with it being on the list of “safe” conventional foods. I’ve read far too much to the contrary on that one. Is conventional (and properly washed) broccoli better than no broccoli at all? You betcha’!

I always choose organic bananas… when given the choice. I know they’re safer, but even more than that… they taste SO much better than conventional!

Some of the non-produce foods that I’ve drawn a “line in the cement” with (meaning, I won’t buy conventional versions) are: meats, eggs, dairy or coffee. I don’t purchase a lot of grain-based foods, but I only choose organic when I do.
