Most of us now know that it’s best to avoid trans fats, hydrogenated fats and partially hydrogenated fats when choosing healthy food for our families. We’ve learned to quickly and carefully scan the ingredients on a label to ensure this nasty little toxin isn’t in our package of food.
But, what is being used to replace these trans fats? You can bet it isn’t purified water… or anything else “high quality” in our profit-driven mass food industry! It appears as though the most common fat being used to replace trans fats (and shut the mass mouth of concerned consumers) is interesterified fats. Not a good thing at all.
This is from a very interesting article from Dr. Mercola’s site that I thought you should be aware of.
Once again, it always seems to come back to my very basic recommendations for nutrition and healthy food choices. These are consistently the safest and most health-producing.
1) Eat foods from within the Circle of Health for every meal and every snack (at least, the vast majority of the time). What’s in the Circle of Health?
- protein, healthy fats and oils, vegetables, fruit, pure water, dairy* and grains* (* please read any of my other nutritional articles or books for the important caveats to these 2 food groups)
2) Follow the 3 Golden Rules of Nutrition and Food Choice:
(i) eat REAL food (the ones in the Circle of Health)
(ii) eat foods closest to their naturally occurring state, in their whole form
(iii) choose foods that are as pure as possible, fresh, seasonal, local, organic
If we ate like this more often, I doubt we’d be reading as many labels and trying to avoid these interesterified fats… as well as all the other toxic ingredients!
