Motion is Life ~ Cardio Work Out

Yesterday was another gorgeous fall day… definitely an Indian Summer type of day! I was SO happy to get out for another run.

Unfortunately, the same injury that prompted me to investigate Chiropractic care over 20 years ago has made another appearance. Dumb thing. It tends to do that every year or two. I’m going to see if I can nip it in the bud this time… did lots of stretching yesterday and today.

Anyhow, my intended “long” run turned into a shorter run with wind sprints at the end.  I did a little 2.2 mile run, then “pulled over” to my favorite little sprinting road. I did 6 pretty-much-full-out-until-the-last-couple 200 meter sprints with 15 – 30 seconds rest periods in between.

Funny thing is, this old stinky injury (near my hip… iliac crest, to be more specific) doesn’t hurt at all when I run full-out… but it hurts when I’m “regular” running. Weird. Guess I’ll need to sprint everywhere I go until this clears up!

Oh, what does “nipping it in the bud” mean to me? Not drugs! Laying off the activities that aggravate it the most (as best I can!), stretching, ice, some soft tissue work and more Chiropractic adjustments, of course!!

Motion is Life ~ Cardio Work Out

I was due for another cardio work out today… but I’m still without parent #2 or any childcare… and we don’t have anything like a treadmill or ellyptical trainer in our house, so I had to wing it again!

I’m getting good at winging it!

While the kids were finishing up their soccer games this morning, I took advantage of the wide open fenced in space, and the fact that the kids could see exactly where I was at all times. I did a series of running/sprints from one side of the park to the other – I’m guessing it’s about 400-450 meters across. Maybe it just seemed that way!

I did 10 sprints at anywhere from 70 – 85% of my full speed.

I don’t know how long that was because I was immediately beckoned over to check out the worm house the kids had created in the mud while I was running.

Cute.

Saturday we took off for a nice long family bike ride with the kids – pulling one in the bike trailer and the other on the “3rd wheel” behind the bike. They’re always good for adding some resistance to our cardio work outs!

We did about 19 miles.

My husband and I were both walking funny afterwards, so I suppose that means it was an effective work out! (Either that or the bike seats really hurt!)

Sunday I got some really great, completely unplanned cardio over at my dad’s place. He’s got a huge yard that worked out perfectly for my daughter to practice riding her bike without training wheels. We just don’t have the right set up at home to safely bike ride, so the kids rarely get to experience this kind of freedom… and this kind of practice.

I chased that kid up and down the property, dozens of times, trying to keep up with her as she got the hang of this new skill. She knows nothing about riding slowly… it’s all full-speed ahead! Hilarious!

I got a serious work out in just trying to stay with her, take video and prevent any major crashes! Who knew?! I think I should make a new “Run While They Ride” work out video!

Monday I did a sprinting work out. I felt the need to burn calories and melt fat! I’m not really sure how long I was out there, but I did intervals of 10 x 100 meter sprints, with half jog and half walk back to the starting point, followed by a few seconds of rest. I believe it was around 15 minutes… maybe a couple more.

Good work out.

Motion is Life ~ Daily Work Out Log

Today was a running day.

Ran 5. 5 miles in approximately 45 minutes. (Not Speedy Gonzales today.) I don’t really know how long it was… I was caught up in recording some ideas for a new article and book series… kinda’ lost track of time!

Tried out some new running shoes that I picked up from Costco – Adidas runners for less than $40! The price was DEFINITELY right… but after the run, my arches could see why they were so cheap!
